Humble Joy

Humility is hard to escape when one lives in a household of small children. They are honest, and age-appropriately abrupt, offering adolescent insight and observation that can sometimes make you cringe but also make you laugh until you cry.

Yesterday brought an additional opportunity to eradicate any sort of pride still lingering after 10 years of parenting. The humility – I cannot hide from it.

Mary Mac was sitting in my lap when she looked at me with her big, green eyes smothered in long, dark eyelashes and said, “Mommy, you’re the best in the whole wide world. I love you so much.”

(Oh, can I eat you with a spoon right now? What have I done to deserve your delicious joy?)

She followed the sweet, endearing comment with, “Did you know that you have black fur inside of your nose?”

The look on my face must have concerned Mary Mac because she quickly responded: “I mean it’s okay if you do. It just means God made you EXTRA FANCY.”

There’s really nothing else I can add to that.

I have black fur in my nose. And I am fancy.

Hope your weekend is full of joy....

No fear, I have black fur also--and eyebrows I can barely see through :)

Monday is no good for Mr. Starbucks, Kelly took the morning off and we are going to look at schools for next year. How about Wednesday or Thursday?

laurie-

Mr. Starbucks is going to be disappointed that you are standing him up. Have you found another boyfriend?

Wednesday works for me if it works for you.
